Vinay Nayak Supports Political Activism

The recent political campaigns have led to increased political activism among more young adults and minority groups. As a young aspiring politician, Vinay Nayak encourages all young adults to be politically active and socially conscious. He believes even if teenagers are too young to vote they can still get involved in their communities to bring about positive change.

Vinay Nayak is proud to call himself a young democrat. His political involvement has already drawn the eye of the Democratic Party. He repeatedly shows his political spirit by getting involved in community events. Vinay Nayak showcased his political beliefs and spirit by volunteering in Barack Obama's presidential campaign and speech making.

Vinay Nayak supports activism starting at the community level. As a freshman at Yale University, Vinay Nayak worked as a policy assistant to New Haven's Community Development Community. It was during his freshman year that he learned about the economic hardships of many of New Haven's small business owners and others within the community When it comes to politics, Vinay Nayak is very detail orientated.

Vinay Nayak has taken political activism to a greater level within his own life. Instead of supporting another candidate, Vinay Nayak is running for Alderman.  He already has plans ready to submit to the city board if he wins the race for Ward 1. As young candidates, both Vinay Nayak and his opponent have been signing up new voters. Most recently, his count is over 600 new registered voters.

While Vinay Nayak encourages all citizens to read up on political issues and show their support through voting, Vinay Nayak encourages citizens to do more than vote. He believes that if people can make a difference in their community, they should. Vinay Nayak knows younger voters can make a difference when they become vocal about political and social topics. He strongly supports grassroots movements. Vinay Nayak sees them as the best way to promote political and social community change.

Vinay Nayak: Ready to Compete

It may seem odd that a university student is ready to run for a political position, but that is exactly what Vinay Nayak is prepared to do. Politics and social involvement have been important to Vinay Nayak since high school. He was always following the local events and topics of interest of his Chicago community. That passion for staying informed and getting involved followed him to Yale University. Upon entering the prestigious school, Vinay Nayak joined the Mock Trial Team. 

Vinay Nayak was pushed to play multiple roles as a public speaker, public servant, and private citizen all at the age of 19. As an active member of Yale University's Mock Trial Team, Vinay Nayak participates in competitions that simulate real trials. He considers the competitions and debates as practice for his mind. Through his participation and success in mock trials, Vinay Nayak was awarded both Outstanding Attorney and Outstanding Witness. 

His competition and participation in mock trials continues to sharpen his public speaking skills. It is a skill that is instrumental to his burgeoning career as a politician. In 2010, Vinay Nayak exercised his skills in public speaking by reciting an original speech from memory for the National Forensic League's Oratory Championship. His oratory skills opened a once in a life-time opportunity to give a speech to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. on live television. 

His public speaking experiences and active political background made his decision to run for Ward 1 Alderman in New Haven easy. His political opponent is also a Yale student with many of the same areas of focus as himself. Vinay Nayak's three focal areas include: making the community safe, making the government more transparent, and revving up the New Haven economy. Although the goals of the two candidates shadow each other, Vinay Nayak is determined to set himself apart and win Alderman. He is ready to apply himself to the race and the role of Alderman with his continued hard work and drive to succeed and serve the community.
